Establishment of the Hong Kong Diamond Bourse

Along with it came affluence for the average consumer and the emergence of the Asia Pacific region as an important market for diamonds. made Hong Kong a major sourcing centre for Southeast Asian Manufacturers. The phenomenal growth in local diamond trading prompted an urgent need for a diamond exchange for local and overseas diamond dealers. In an effort to put Hong Kong on an equal footing with other major international diamond trading centres, a group of dedicated Hong Kong diamond dealers joined forces and founded the Hong Kong Diamond Bourse on January 18, 1985. Operations were officially inaugurated on March 8, 1985. In June, 1987, the Hong Kong Diamond Bourse became the 20th member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB).
